This year Google changed its SEO’s requirement through Google Panda updates. The regular updates have greatly affected many websites and blogs’ traffic. Many websites and blogs that were on the top, found their ranking lowered. Some websites and blogs were able to recover, however, not all were lucky enough!

If you want to recover your ranking the first thing you need to do is gauge your website or blog’s SEO health. Normally you would use the following ways:

  1. First, you would look at your SERP ranking!
  2. Second, you would check your website or blog’s popularity in social networking websites. Checking the number of ‘social media share’ across Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus is an excellent way of gauging your popularity.
  3. Thirdly, you would check whether you have a number of inbound quality links. Every internet marketers know the importance of inbound quality links.
  4. After Google Panda updates many websites owners and bloggers improved their website and blog download speed because emphasis was given to it.
  5. Lastly you would check whether you are providing new and unique content to your readers or traffic. Again you are doing this because Google has stressed about providing outstanding content on your website or blog.

If you think the above five metrics are enough to gauge your website or blog’s health then you are WRONG. This is not even close to “sufficient.” Here are more ways of gauging your website or blog’s health and thus improving it:

ü  Check how much time the user has spent on your website or blog

Keep a track of the average time spent by users on your website or blog. If a user is spending less than two minutes on your website or blog then that means your site is not providing relevant content to the incoming traffic.

ü  Check the depth of the user’s visit on your website or blog

Your analytic tools can help you determine the depth of your user’s visit. Does the user only visit the homepage and leave? Or does he or she navigate through different webpages?

ü  Determine the entry and exit points of your site.

Your analytic tools can help you determine different entry and exit points in your website or blog. Keeping these points in mind will help you determine where the incoming traffic stops looking for information on your site. Then you can simply adjust those “exit points”

ü  Through your entry points check whether people are being directed to the relevant information

The entry and exit points of incoming and outgoing traffic also helps you evaluate whether people are navigating on important pages or “fluff” sections.  If they are missing the point then you need to restructure your website or blog’s navigation structure.

ü  Check your conversion rate

The whole point of an affiliate website or blog is to convert your traffic to customers. If that is not happening then something is seriously wrong!

ü  Check your bounce rate

The percentage of incoming traffic that arrives at your website or blog and then leaves right away is called bounce rate. This is different from the ‘time’ people are spending on your website or blog. If a person is spending time reading one of your webpages then that should not be counted towards bounce rate. Therefore, keep track of your website or blog’s health through both ways.

Checking your website or blog’s SEO health through the following above means will help you understand your target audience more. These are also factors that you should use to improve the ranking of your site so that it becomes number one again! Good luck!
